Taking a break from all the noise

"Taking a break from all the noise"

I have been pretty MIA lately and its simply because I felt so overwhelmed with everything going on around me so the best way to cope was to just shut down on social media and go back to a place where I felt inspired but most importantly motivated. I am slowly getting out of that 'funk' and feeling more like myself but I am not afraid to admit that I have those moments. Social media in general is often misleading with many of us including myself constantly comparing ourselves to others all while trying to produce the best content and feeling the need to 'compete' with others. Its all about views, ads, promotions, influencer marketing and so much more and although it sucks, thats just the way social media functions which is why it is imperative to take the time and step away from all the 'noise'.

One thing I want you to take from this post is that most of what you see is not real life. We don't showcase our struggles and what we are going through in our day to day life. I can be honest and say that I too don't share half of my struggles in life because its embarrassing and not the positive energy I want to put out there. I hope to be more transparent but that takes time and healing first. Whats your take on social media ? Have you ever needed to take the time out to get ride of the 'noise' ?

Protecting my energy - The negative funk

Protecting my energy

I am constantly talking about ENERGY, not the type of energy that first comes to your mind but the energy within ourselves. The best way to describe it is the 'vibes' that we give off to others and vice versa. I truly believe that we all possess this energy whether it be positive or negative. A lot of times, we match the energy that others give off. For example, you unexpectedly meet someone you really admire for the first time with so much excitement, joy and positive 'energy', and the moment you catch their attention they don't seem as excited, a bit rude, uninterested, stand-off-ish and give off a negative vibe. You gather from their reaction that they want to be left alone and are not as happy to see you. Most individuals energy would shift at this point. You were initially excited and now you're thinking 'why did I even decide to bother this person'.In other words, your energy shifted. You are no longer possessing this positive vibe initially had. In my opinion we match the energy that people give off to us, therefore if I meet you for the first time with nothing but good energy, you are more likely to match this energy. I am aware that this does not apply to every situation but my point is, how you behave, the energy that you give to others can often determine the energy of whoever you encounter.

I hope whoever is reading this is making sense of everything i've just mentioned but the point of this post is to express how lately I have been this negative energy and I simply don't like it because to me it is a really ugly trait. The cliche quote "A negative mind will never give you a positive life" is what has been ringing in my mind lately. However, if you're in this 'negative funk' as I like to call it, perhaps take a moment and reflect! For me I have realised that I need to take myself out of this space by taking myself out the situation thats causing me to have this negative energy.

It feels good to release whats been on my mind and so keep to this positive vibe alive below is another OOTD. I document my day on Insta-stories whenever i'm going out for brunch. Usually when I shoot for my blog too and has now become sort of a tradition now lol.

Frills are the focus - #OOTD

Frills are the focus - #OOTD

Its friday and I'm keeping this post a simple OOTD. I did this shoot last week in under 40min and headed straight to duck and waffle after. If you follow me on instagram you would know that it seems like every other week i'm brunching at duck and waffle but I can assure you thats not the case lol. A style that I love is ruffles! Its not for everyone but its definitely for me as I feel it brings out my inner child and takes me down memory lane. Its a simple outfit but the ruffles give it an oomph making it look like I put in a lot of effort when  its really the dress thats doing all the work.

Out of your comfort zone

Out of your comfort zone

To be in your comfort zone, is to do what's 'normal to you' without ever testing boundaries. Its huge topic that can be applied to many aspects of your life but I wanted to focus on fashion, and how we discover our sense of style and then refuse to test or change what we are comfortable with. I too have fallen victim of not wanting to change, try out or test my style because I had the mentality of 'if its aint broke why fix it'. However, i'm learning everyday that change is good, because without change there is little room for growth. In today's outfit of the day, I challenged my style and I loved it. I NEVER wear anything wide-legged because I have really slim legs and was under the impression that I couldn't pull it off. My comfort zone consisted of tailored trousers, a line skirts and dresses. Anything wide-legged was a no go zone! I must say when I saw this jumpsuit (although on the website its considered dunagares I didn't think twice about it. I loved it so much and for a split second those worries of how I thought I couldn't pull it off were non existent. Although I am talking about comfort zones in terms of fashion which to some may seem insignificant, trivial and unimportant, it has put things into perspective. I can challenge myself in every aspect which includes fashion.

Trusting the process...

Trusting the process

I would be lying if I said I trust the process when facing obstacles, particularly when it comes to my career path. As some of you may or may not know I graduated last year and to sum it up I HATED my degree, and therefore decided not to pursue that chosen career. Fast-forward to this current moment, my journey is very up and down with there being some highs and A LOT of lows. I have a very high expectation of myself and where I want to be as do some of you who are reading this and so when things don't go as planned it really knocks me down emotionally. Its gotten to the point where I am scared to get excited about new opportunities in fear that will in turn  into disappointment. This is where 'trusting the process' comes into play. It so easy to view others success and assume that it didn't take a few knock-backs, challenges and obstacles. Below are a few tips to help this process.

Tip 1
'Acceptance' - Accept that not everything will go as planned and that it ok to not be ok. Accepting defeat and failure is difficult but is part of trusting the process. The process will never be smooth sailing, there will be bumps in your journey, friends lost, lessons learned but most importantly growth, even when you can't see it.

Tip 2
'Don't rush' - This is a tough one. We are all so eager to want something that we rush and when things don't go to plan, we assume the process is slow.I hated the feeling of being stagnant and I have come to the realisation that its me rushing the process. Good things take time!

Tip 3
'Worry less' - Its a lot easier said than done. A way to tackle this is repeat to yourself positive affirmations. If your finding it difficult to come up with your own, Pinterest is your best friend. The many issues with worrying is that you end up in this vicious cycle of negative energy which does nothing to help trust the process. The saying 'A negative mind will never give you a positive life'  pretty much sums this tip.

Tip 4

Master the day - This tip relates to tip 2 but I saw a quote on pinterest that stated 'Your not going to master the rest of your life in one day. Just Relax. Master the day. Then just keep doing that everyday'. This quote speaks volumes because part of trusting the process is taking each day as it comes rather than trying to predict the future, create it by living in each moment. You are less likely to overwhelm yourself when you take each day as it comes.

Tip 5
Self belief  - Know that you are more than capable of achieving greatness. No one but yourself  can dictate your future. Take responsibility for your mistakes, learn from them but trust the process. Whether the process seems 'slow', whether you feel stagnant' in your journey, whether you feel more low's than highs, the process is a series steps taken in order to achieve a particular end, therefore as long as you keep working towards that goal, you are getting closer to where you want to be.

Outfit of the day

Outfit of the day

Hello Kings & Queens, long time no blog post. Without making too many excuses lets just say blogging is not easy. I would love to post consistently every week but I don't have anyone to help me take pictures every week so its difficult because I want to do photoshoots every chance I get but with no photographer, I can't do so. Nevertheless, my friends and I went to the Alchemist for lunch, which I must say was AMAZING. The food was great but the cocktails are even better. The Photo's online will not do it justice!!!!

We decided to do a super quick photo shoot because it was starting to get dark really quickly #winterstruggles. Fashion details are below!
